Caorle meets the requirements and the wishes of the international tourism. During your holidays, you will have the opportunity to take part to historical festivals such as the commemoration of "Virgins' Rape."
This commemoration has been inspired by a true historical fact occurred in 10.a.c, when every year, Venetians used to celebrate the marriage of 12 young girls with 12 young men in the Olivo island's cathedral.

During one of these celebrations, all the girls were raped by a group of pirates coming from Jugoslavia. They broke into the cathedral and raped the girls and all their dowries to leave rapidly on their vessels. Venetians were so angry, that they took revenge against the pirats by organizing a battle fleet under the leadership of the doge Candiano. Candiano and the fleet succeeded in reaching the pirats at Caorle's harbour and killing them.
This tale is part of the history and the traditions of Caorle and you will be able to know more about it by drinking a glass of good red wine with the bartenders or the innkeepers of some typical bars and restaurants on Caorle's picturesque streets.
