The origin of this ancient tradition are dated back to 1600 when people, whiling away long and cold winters, loved making sculptures and implements in wood. Nowadays this tradition persists, craft workers create sculptures and many decorative elements of value. The most important and representative pieces of art are exposed in the interesting Gardena Valley Museum .

The “Ladina” origin of the people of the land is an important element for the inhabitants of the Gardena Valley. They are deeply linked to their ancient origins and many manifestations, except from their local language and cuisine, and events are arranged all along the year to maintain alive their ancient past.
During these various manifestations and events, the Gardena Valley people are dressed up in traditional clothes. These are pieces of art themselves: the brightness of their colors, the refinement of cloths, the complex embroideries and much more are the clear expression of how much love the Gardena Valley people put in their tradition. In the past these clothes were dressed up by local dealers that traveled abroad to sell goods of their land.
Clothes and events arranged are not the only tangible elements of the alive past. The language as well the cuisine are other important elements that make evident how the past is something strictly linked to the present. Food and wine are prepared like in the past and, in a sort of way, keep intact the same taste and flavour.
